I worked with George at IBM and I never met a more intelligent and gentlemanly individual. He was a true computer scientist, but whether he was pioneering computer assisted education in the 1970's when it was in its infancy or personally producing important online computer practical innovations for IBM'ers and customers in the 1990's he was truly brilliant and had a great sense of humor and brought many chuckles to meetings where he was always known to speak up, invited or not. I never knew of his difficult background and he never spoke of it until recently, I assume because he did want any special attention for his early life. I am truly sorry I did not hear of his passing so I could attend his services. I also live in his same community of Menlo Park. Belatedly, my heart goes out to Iby and the family. I still remember the strudel he would maybe with the help of Iby.
