It is worth mentioning that all of these ponds, and Greco Island (bayward from and north of Bedwell Bayfront Park), are part of the 30,000+ acre Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge that rings most of the South Bay shoreline from Bair Island to the Alameda flood control channel. The Menlo Park ponds are now permenantly protected on a wildlife-first basis with wildlife-compatible public uses. While the progress of restoration and flood control will take time, the future is of a natural wetland gateway along Menlo Park's eastern entry.
