Have we stooped to such a level that our city council deserves a gold star for merely obeying the law?

I for one would prefer we hold our City Council to a higher standard.

My post was not in jest. The norm is for our local agencies to either ignore or closely shirt the Brown Act. I am proud that Atherton has chosen to rigorously follow the law. And you are right it is sad when so many agencies do do not rigorously follow the law.

Did they all stop at the stop sign on the way out and obey the speed limit all the way home as well, Peter?

Just Wandering - We each have our strenghts. I'll focus on the Brown Act and corruption in government and leave you to deal with the stop signs and speed limits.

With Marsala gone and Lewis in check I'm not so worried about the Council anymore.

What I do worry about is our Police Department.

Proudest Peter: If you had been able to attend the 7:00 PM regular council meeting, you would have heard the "report out" from closed session on the items that were so carefully stated as agendized for discussion at the 6:00 meeting--announced while you were still present in the conference room.
At 7:00 The" reportable actions taken" were announced as follows:
1) Prompt and immediate resolution to Police Dispatcher John Mattes' formal claim against the town for extra money that he felt somebody owed him.
2)The tentative final SELECTION of one Mr. Daneilson of Elk Grove as interim city manager pending a brief examination of the grand jury's extreme concerns about the man as featured in their investigation report.
No clues on the remaining litigation item listed and nothing as usual on the Buckhiet case.

Maybe or maybe not -

It is often difficult for the town council to "report out" any details of pending litigation. If the town council discussed the possibility of a settlement in the Buckheit litigation, that would give an unfair advantage to the plaintiff. It is for that reason that the Brown Act excludes pending or threatened litigation from public disclosure.

With regard to the Atherton Police Department, you asked "who's keeping those folks honest?" Gadfly, you live in Atherton... and I would hope YOU would take an interest in keeping YOUR police department honest! If more Athertonians took an interest, your town might not be facing these issues.
