Tension between the Menlo Park Fire Protection District and its firefighters over contract talks that stalled 18 months ago likely won't ease anytime soon.

What don't the firefighters get? These are tough economic times for all but a very few. If I were one of them I would be embarrassed expecting that much of a raise. When other fire departments are making concessions, having lay-offs, etc., how do they have the gall to ask for that much more money. If I look at their published compensation, I'd say they have it pretty good. People should be fortunate to make what they do.

I have respect for what they do but at what cost? I don't see our men and women in the armed services demanding more money. In many ways their job are much more demanding, especially the one in Iraq and Afghanistan. I say be grateful that you have a job and decent compensation.
