Atherton's Ex Chief and his golden parachute

Original post made by mad max, Atherton: other, on Nov 23, 2010

There was a post about Glenn Nielsen and his $300k final year compensation.

The post raised questions as to whether Nielsen actually earned what he collected.

Mad Max, Maybe the other thread was taken down because of the irresponsible unfounded rumors you (I assume) were making. Some of the comments on the thread that was taken down (but not before some of us saw them, with disgust) were so irresponsible they damaged your cause, I'm sure. I am also concerned about possible (probable?)shenanigans that have gone on in this town, but can we have reasonable discussions about them rather than spew venom and alienate people who might otherwise pay attention? If you were the one posting the libelous comments on the thread that was taken down, you are your own worst enemy.

I've seen a number of posts about the former Chief of Police that were taken down almost as quickly as they were put up.

These posts did not appear venemous or libelous to me. Rather they seemed to raise legitimate (albeit serious) concerns about the conduct of our former Chief.

Call me jaded. But with what has happened in our Town as of late, [Portion deleted. Please don't use Town Square to speculate on whether someone committed a crime.]

I don't know if Glen Nielsen was involved in any of the stuff he was accused of in the deleted post. Some of it sounded pretty ridiculous for a police chief to be associated with.

However, taking $300,000 off the table for "unused vacation" time when retiring with a 90% pension is a legitimate issue. At any company I've ever worked for, vacation accruals are capped at two weeks or maybe a month. How he got something like two years of unpaid vacation is an absolute travesty.

According to the Almanac's article, he organized a group to protest possible outsourcing of the police department last week at a council meeting. The type of public sector excesses like $300,000 vacation cash-outs that he took place in are the real culprit for any outsourcing discussions, not over the top posts by people who have been (perhaps legitimately, perhaps not) aggrieved. If the public sector employees were more reasonable, the pendulum wouldn't be swinging so far in the other direction.

And can someone explain how Atherton employees are at the 70th percentile of the salaries in the peninsula, which is already a very wealthy area to begin with? We have no sales tax. If anything, we can't even afford to be at the average!

I have personally warned the Atherton Almanac of the price/cost for vanishing posts.
There is a wonderful woman alive and well today ONLY because I saw 4 posts on this website that lasted less than 20 minutes. She would be DEAD if I did not see the communications from other concerned citizens.

Facts: Glenn Neilsen was promoted to Chief, which increased his salary, which increased his pension. He resigned a short time later.

Glenn Neilsen is now employed by Sequoia Healthcare District (Special Grant Making group of 5) where Don Horsley ( X Sheriff of SMC) brought him onboard.

Glenn Neilsen organized a rally to oppose Police Outsourcing. Why?
Councilman Jim Dobbie said the e-mail from Mr. Nielsen "stirred things up. ... It just generated a lot of concern that was totally inappropriate."

Lets see the e-mail from Glenn Neilsen, is he more interested in public safety for the residents of Atherton? or something else, protecting pensions?

Why is Glenn Neilsen still so VERY involved with the Atherton Police Department?

Sorry for the misspelling its Nielsen.
