Former Menlo College trustee calls for more details on school president's departure

Menlo College leaders have remained closed-lipped about the school president's unexpected departure, frustrating a former school board member.
Thomas Escher, who served on the board for six years until his term expired the past summer, called for Menlo to explain why college President Timothy Haight is leaving after -- by all public accounts -- four successful years at the school.
Earlier this month, the college announced that Haight is stepping down Dec. 31 and will be succeeded by James Kelly, currently Menlo provost and executive vice president.
Haight has been unavailable for comment but said in a letter to the college community obtained by the student newspaper The Menlo Oak that the board "has elected to exercise the buyout option of my contract."
