It looks to me like the Almanac doesn't like Mr. Cohen. What ever happened to "fair and balanced"?

We would have written these stories the same way no matter who was involved. Elected officials are responsible for their words and actions, and The Almanac is responsible for reporting them.

The Almanac once was objective. More recently however, how about it's reporting of the emailgate (council use of city email) incident during the campaign? Try a websearch of the Almanac website "Kelly Ferguson email"

The reason we have a heritage tree ordinance in Menlo Park is to protect the city's tree cover - a major component of its pleasant character.
Kim LeMieux, a realtor is (or should be) fully aware of the existance and intent of this ordinance. To purchase this small property to develop a large (speculative?) residence and being aware of tree and ordinance indicates utter disrespect for the neighborhood.
LeMieux's request to cut down the tree should be denied regardless of her machinations. If professional Architects can't come up with a design that protects the tree LeMieux should cut her losses and move on.

Sandy Brundage again tries to paint Judge Cohen in a bad light. Why is she on this rampage and why is the Almanac agreeing to such obviously bias reporting.

If I were Cohen, I would not be willing to talk to her again; why should he? She writes on 3 party hearsay information (she has already written that LeMieux was not the source for the original report and that Cohen certainly was not the source of the "TIP" that was afforded the Almanac for the story.)

Poor journalism, certainly not up to previous Almanac standards, and much more like the muckraking competition.

The heritage tree ordinance does not prevent the removal of large trees. It establishes that requests to remove or significantly prune trees that are over 16" in trunk diameter (10" for most oaks) shall be reviewed and an application is required. There is no presumption of denial.

Stop defending Andy. He blew it himself and he will again. The reporter HAS to cover this issue. And if Andy takes the Palin route the way you all have and blames the media, well then it is officially time to retire Andy from council.

The story says, "Without explanation, Councilman Andy Cohen has now twice requested, and then withdrawn the requests, that the council consider reconsidering its vote." Did he explain his requests and changes of heart to the Almanac?

I would think that Andy Cohen would not tell the Almanac anything anymore. For what ever reason, they are trying to attack him personally --- just best to keep one's mouth shut in such cases.

Maybe I missed something but from what I've read in the Almanac nothing not was reported regarding Kelly Ferguson's private use of the City's email until there was something positive news to report. And when you did report the story the emphasis was on the Brown Act and not on the behind the scene campaigning.

The inference is that you were quick to attack Andy Cohen but delayed reporting negative stories on Kelly Ferguson.

I agree with you and have already said so on this thread. Mr. Cohen's remarks were despicable.

But please don't blame all wealthy white men. It's never a good idea to make blanket statements about any ethnic group.

Confused:

Mr. Cohen did not respond when asked about the reasons for the requests by The Almanac. He also gave no explanation to city staff or council when making the requests.

I am hopeful the council sees the logic in Cline staying on as Mayor. Disagree with him or not, but he does manage meetings well and keeps the politics at least marginalized. He's white and wealthy so I am not against all of them.
