Santa's not coming to town after all

Original post made on Oct 28, 2010

Santa's lost his ride this year. Despite months of effort trying to save it, this week Caltrain's managers canceled the holiday train that has collected thousands of toys over the years for children who otherwise might not find anything under the Christmas tree.

These so-called "good stewards of taxpayer money" couldn't find one useless, overpaid union employee to fire so that thousands of poor kids could get some toys on Christmas? Disgraceful.

So if CalTrain said on Oct 26 that there would be no Santa's Train why did the Almanac run a story on Oct 27 saying there would be a scaled-down version of Santa's Train which would be stopping in Menlo Park on Dec 5?

The newspaper went to press before Oct. 26.

I stand corrected Sandy, thanks.
I only read the "Almanac Online" - which I guess includes both news written for the print edition and for the "Online."
Would it be possible to indicate which news items in the "Online" were written strictly for "Online?"
Thanks again.

Bob:

Our news cycle is confusing - generally anything we write online during the week, after the latest issue goes to print, will then appear in print the following issue.

We try to get all the online stories into the print edition, but sometimes there isn't enough space.
