Four Atherton candidates offer ideas for fixing town

Original post made on Oct 13, 2010

Lawsuit settlements and attorney fees totaling around $900,000 in the past year. Two building officials abruptly retiring in the last four years after coming under intense scrutiny and criticism over their oversight of the building department. A $1 million structural budgetary deficit in a community famous for its multimillionaires and billionaires. And a City Council that's become almost dysfunctional in the eyes of many in the community because of its inability to find common ground on key issues.

This forum should not be for personal attacks. This libel is unfortunate and makes Atherton look bad. Is this the image we want to have?

By the way, I noted that Jim Janz is on Mr. Carlson's list of endorsers and as well as Mr. Widmer's.

Seems like we have some hypocritical behavior here. What happen to transparceny?

Thanks Resident,

I just tried it and got in, must have been a glitch.

also Cary Wiest endorses Don Horsley but there is no mention of Horsley endorsing Wiest.

I know Sherman Hall III and Jane, they are long term respected residents of Atherton. The person you are referencing is not is the person who endorsed Mr. Wiest.

Let's not have these personal attacks and put away the nooses!

On Oct. 12 the Alamanc said "We're taking campaign attack postings offline." What happened here?

I am responding to the horrible comment about my husband Jim Janz. First, all the construction that we have done on our house has been in full compliance with the law and met all codes. Secondly, Jim left the council when his second term was up because he felt he needed to focus on his family, and other professional and civic interests.

Atherton is blessed to have had someone of Jim's caliber give a total of 18 years to the planning commision and city council without any compensation or reward.

The person who wrote such a mean, wrong and unfair comment should knock on our door and be willing to share their concerns openly to Jim who is more than willing to address the concerns they may have.

Kathy - unfortunately the editor is unable to monitor all of the anonymous personal attacks and trash talk which occur on this forum.

My advice, which unfortunately I myself find difficult to follow, is to ignore them and hopefully they will turn their demented minds elsewhere.

Thank you for posting under your real name - few do these days because it involves being held accountable for what they say.
