MENLO PARK, Calif.—Firefighters in Menlo Park want overtime pay for the hours spent picking up uniforms and gear before their shifts start.

A federal lawsuit filed Thursday on behalf of 82 Menlo Park Fire Protection District firefighters says the district refuses to pay firefighters for time they spend before their shifts driving to one station to pick up equipment and then driving to a second station where they are assigned to work.

The district claims firefighters aren't entitled to pay for time spent picking up equipment because they have the option of taking it home with them.

The district serves Atherton, East Palo Alto, Menlo Park and some of the unincorporated areas of San Mateo County.

Wow, as if these guys aren't overpaid enough!
Fire all of them and build a volunteer force!
