Even the outgoing superintendent has openly discussed whether we need a superintendent in the PVSD. Now we are adding 1.5 people at a mid-six figure pay grade to a school district that is asking (and getting) employees to take a pay cut and residents to pay an increased parcel tax. How does the school board explain this?

Indeed - interesting that the timing of the announcement for the Asst Superintendent was after the parcel tax special election - even though it was in the works long before then.
This is exactly why people do not support the parcel tax - even if they feel compelled to vote for it.

Well I heard that the students are so excited about the new hire that they would like to end summer early and start school on Monday. Great work folks. Who cares if the district is a little top heavy, good teachers are dime a dozen.

John and Anna: don't let facts get in the way of a good story. The new structure has fewer administrators and less cost associated than the current structure. More than $1M has been reduced in spending in the district over the last 2 years without eliminating the jobs of any classroom teachers. and while for the non-teaching and administrative folks there is no raise, that is not lowering salary. The teachers have been getting raises all along I believe..

Believe me, after working in all levels of the public schools, Portola Valley is lucky to have Mr. Hanratty. If only La Honda pescader could have been so lucky...and besides, he actually lives in the community he works in.
