Atherton Promotes Police Lieutenant from Within

Original post made by Inspector Erskine, Atherton: other, on Jul 4, 2010

In a little heralded press release dated July 1, Atherton announced that Sergeant Joe Wade had been promoted to be Police Lieutenant, the second in command position in the small Atherton Police Department.

This is a spot that was supposed to be filled in January. Interviews were conducted then. Why was the appointment made on July 1?

What kind of message does it send to continually promote from within? First Nielsen, then Guerra, now Wade. I mean no disrespect to Wade or his abilities, but could the Atherton Police Department, with all of its problems of late, benefit from fresh sets of eyes from larger police agencies to help reign in some of the out-of-control behavior?

Was Mayor Kathy McKeithen given a chance to pass muster on this appointment? Were John Buckheit, Chief Moore, or John Ruggiero given a chance to weigh in?

Was Elizabeth Lewis?

The odds on the correct answers to that last question have a remarkable spread.

Wade was the internal affairs officer who investigated Clark Yee on stolen golf clubs.

Something smells fishy here.

In response to Inspector Erskine: from your choice of 'characters,' (member name) I highly doubt you're truly involved in the law enforcement field, If you were, you would know that larger police agencies have their issues as well....actually, more of them....they just aren't exposed as much as a smaller agency is. By larger agency, do you mean Menlo Park P.D. or the Sheriff's Office? Ask around....you may learn they both have similar cases being investigated as Atherton does....happy investigating....
