I see your point, Big Al, but I agree with Amy. Having the first stage of the Tour in Palo Alto a few years ago was great. It was very accessible to the public, lots of viewing for everyone, very well supported by the community. It was on a Sunday (or Sat) and well enough publicized so that people knew to stay away if they weren't interested. It's nice that there's an opportunity to see the racers so close to home this year, but it's just not as accessible for the many people who will be coming to Woodside to see them. Glad to have the race nearby regardless of where it is.

Alright Tammy and Amy, you are both right, and I am an idiot.
The race should start in Palo Alto, and from there head up into the
hills. It could be done, and why not again. I sometimes just chime in because I like to read what I've written. It's kind of like a person who talks just to hear their own voice, if you know what i mean. Keep on ridin' and the let big wheel keep on rollin'

The race may be back in Palo Alto someday. They have changed the route every year, and they will continue to do so. It was a great opportunity, and having the race start here meant that the teams were training here for a couple of weeks in advance. I heard several tales of riders encountering groups of pros out on the road, chatting with them, giving directions, etc.
