AT&T phones - outage

Original post made by Central Menlo, Menlo Park: Central Menlo Park, on May 3, 2010

What happened to our AT&T telephone service?

Our 2 home telephone lines were out of service for 4 days last week. AT&T explained that there was a service outage in our area and explained that this was due to "lines being cut, maybe from an accident". The odd part was on neigbor called by cell phone a few days later to say that their home phone service went out two days later, and was out through the weekend.

Several neighbors had noticed the AT&T repairman, elbow-deep in wires at the AT&T switchbox on Valparaiso, near University Drive. To top things off, we received a postcard in today's mail, announcing AT&T's new "U-verse service", a service that offers digital high-speed Internet, digital TV, and digital Home Phone lines.

Is this just coincidence, or did AT&T remove home service (without advanced notice) while they provisioned our neighborhood for the new digital services?

AT&T: "Our repair office verified the trouble was caused by wet lines."

Our telephone line (also AT&T) has been out since noon today -- AT&T says it's an area outage and should be back by tonight, but it's 11.15pm now and nothing yet.....anyone else?
