"Gresham's law is commonly stated: "Bad money drives out good", but more accurately stated: "Bad money drives out good under legal tender laws".
This law applies specifically when there are two forms of commodity money in circulation which are required by legal-tender laws to be accepted as having similar face values for economic transactions. "
I suggest that there IS a Gresham's Law for public opinion.
To wit, That rude personal attacks and off topic remarks drive out thoughtful opinion under forum rules which given similar face values to both kinds of opinion.
Here are some views by Town Forum posters:
1 - As a long time 45 year resident of Atherton, and not a follower of this "Police Dept crisis" info at all, but just happened on this article and then read the horrible comments, I too am appalled at the rudeness of some of the commentators and the snarkiness they exhibit while remaining anonymous.
2 - I rarely read the blogs for the reason that they are so nasty. I cannot believe what people will write anonymously. The open hostility the anonymity fosters is, in my opinion, tearing away the rules of social decency. If you wouldn't stand in front of a person face to face and say what you write, then don't write it.
3 - Given the level of rudeness and the frequency of personal attacks by anonymous posters, I will no longer participate in topics which permit posting by unregistered users.
