Let's see - what we really need is better local transportation - infrastructure and reliable public means. Instead we voted to spend 40+ billion dollars so we can get to LaLa Land faster. The way it's going we'll get to LA quicker than we get to our local jobs.

Why is it possible to drive in San Francisco, Boston, New York or any number of cities that are more than 10 times as dense as these so called 'Massive Developments'?

Maybe the traffic scare is exaggerated?

You should check out a fascinating documentary on PBS about the New York City subway system. Population density caused such catastrophic traffic that the whole city was coming to a stand-still. Underground public transit saved New York.

As for driving in Boston or SF, it may be possible but it isn't easy.
