Those with 2nd and 3rd offenses don't apply to this anyway - they've a problem, and currently they would/do face serious legal issues that would be reflected in their record, whether or not, a 10 year old DUI falls off their record. (sorry 'bout the convoluted grammar!)

But for those that make a single mistake 10 years ago? Let it go.

The way to combat DUI's is as plain as your nose. Ist offence stays as is. And it goes away after 10 years. Peroid. 99% of all drivers have driven "over the limit" at least once in their life. 2nd offenders get the book tossed at them and keep their 2nd DUI on for as long as any existing felony stays. 3rd offerder: shoot 'em.

Insist they go to AA. However, there is one problem, they can sign their own card whether they go to the meetings or not. Also, make them have the breath machine on their steering wheel that won't let the car start if intoxicated.

I guess some people still do not get the point. Drink and drive, go to jail. I am sure everyone has seen the commercial. So explain why 1600+ people have been arrested for driving under the influence since December 18th. Of these people, 137 were arrested in San Mateo County.

There are mandatory alcohol classes but statistics show that 1/3 of the people arrested for driving under the influence are repeat offenders. It is simple, have a drink, one drink, do not drive, period.
