M-A Students Advise Congresswoman Anna Eshoo

Original post made by Carol Orton, Menlo Park: Central Menlo Park, on Nov 23, 2009

Juniors Julia Sommer and Leah Worthington have been selected to serve on Congresswoman Anna Eshoo’s 14th Congressional District Student Advisory Board for 2009-2010. While it is a great honor to be selected, it is no easy job. The Student Advisory Board meets twice a month and prepares lengthy reports on timely topics such as health care, employment, and climate change.
Julia commented, “I have always been interested in policy whether recycling programs at M-A or national climate change policy. This is a great way for a young person to have a voice. But I know that my voice has to be a reflection of my M-A peers’ opinions.”
Leah looks forward to working with other members of the Student Advisory Board. “After only two meetings I’m already impressed by the talented, articulate and intelligent students who are serving with us. I know that we will learn a lot about current issues as well as proposed legislation and how it might impact students.”
Julia and Leah are committed to gathering the opinions and ideas of M-A students on issues they study. They will be looking for feedback from students on healthcare, green education, jobs and more.
