Guest opinion: The Almanac has an attitude problem

Original post made on Nov 19, 2009

Now that the election for the board of the Sequoia high school district is over, I would like to comment upon the very limited coverage that this newspaper gives to our local public schools and the consistently negative tone of that coverage.

Ms. Pacifico: Referring to the MA performing arts center, you ask, "Do Almanac readers know that Menlo Park has been given a treasure?"

They would if they read the Oct. 7 cover story...

It wasn't The Almanac that launched this war. The SUHSD that has been transparently anti-charter school. It started with Aurora, continued with Summit and is still taking place with Everest.

I think the only thing The Almanac has done is said the district's anti-charter tirade is unwarranted and unwise. I haven't seen them criticize the comprehensives.

Outstanding editorial Ms. Pacifico! For years I have been, and many of my school supporting friends on the PTO's, and the Foundation, have been frustrated and distraught about the way the MPCSD has been treated. Never anything positive, just everything negative about the increase in students, the increase in congestion around the schools, the concerns with the neighbors of the schools etc. Ironically, if it were not for the great schools and school board of the MPCSD, the realtors would not have the extra income to afford the ads run in The Almanac! They sell expensive houses, because of the schools indirect ability to keep our homes appreciating. I'd like to see The Almanac try to survive without realtor ads.
Why the negativity Almanac?
