Internet birthday a local affair

An SRI computer was at one end and a UCLA computer at the other in the first attempt, forty years ago today, to log in to a computer from a remote site. Now, Oct. 29 is thought of as the official birthday of the Internet.

... and ARPANET would have died without Al Gore's efforts to continue funding it. However, he didn't "invent the internet", he just produced it...
