Left Wing Newspapers See Dramatic Drop in Circulation

In an article by By Barbara Ortutay, an AP Business Writer published this morning she cited a dramatic drop in ciculation in some left wing newspapers that are the darlings of many Menlo Park residents.

"The New York Times stayed in third place at 927,851, down 7.3 percent from the same period of 2008".

"Of the top 25 dailies, the San Francisco Chronicle saw the worst circulation decline, falling 25.8 percent to 251,782".

But the main stream Wall Street journal showed an increase in circulation.

"As expected, The Wall Street Journal has surpassed USA Today as the top-selling newspaper in the United States. The Journal's average Monday-Friday circulation edged up 0.6 percent to 2.02 million -- making it the only daily newspaper in the top 25 to see an increase".

The message is clear that left wing newspapers have lost their credibility and people are just not bothering to read them anymore (with the exception of the Almanac).

I wonder how "The Nation" did nationally. One thing for sure is that you can't blame Menlo Park for not supporting it.

If the WSJ is seeing an increase in circulation, that is sad indeed.

I was a loyal subscriber and finally let it go because the paper is a shadow of what it was before Rupert Murdoch took over.

There was no other paper like it, and now it's gone. The Journal set standards for in-depth reporting, excellent writing and complete separation of editorial opinion from news that we will not likely see again.

Hank "The Crank" Lawrence, with this post, is slamming down the gauntlet for pretenders to the title, "King of the Pointless Post" -- I have not seen its silly equal in months of reading this forum. Left or right clearly has nothing to do with circulation losses, and the author of the quoted article makes no such claim:

Right there with the S.F. Chronicle, at about a 22% decline in circulation, was the Dallas Morning News, another bastion of liberal thought. Hank, honestly, other than loving to play the troll, what's the point?
