Woodside may re-examine penalties for those who illegally cut down trees

A Woodside couple were in line for a $10,000 fine for having felled 10 trees on their Sand Hill Road property, but the Town Council could revisit the size of the fine after examining fines in other Bay Area communities.

When will people in this state wake up and realize that we don't live in the USSR. People in this state have forgotten what the terms private property and ownership mean. A $10,000 fine for removing a tree in insane on your own private property.

If we are going to have a tree ordinance, then we should have meaningful fines for violating it. A $500 fine per tree is inconsequential to someone developing a multi-million dollar home. It makes it easier to pay the fine then to seek a permit a risk delaying your project.
