The cops need to crack down all the time, not just once a month. Most of the time I see someone blow through a stop sign, they are chatting on a cell phone. I don't know how many innocent people these cell phone people have killed so far, but it is not a small number.

When the law first went into effect, I noticed (gleefully) far fewer people on hand-held phones. Now, it's as if they know they can usually get away with it, so many more are flouting the law.

One thing I've noticed is that many of them, rather than talking in the look-at-me way they used to, with phone in left hand and mouth in high gear, are now sinking lower into their seats, using their right hand, and turning their lowered heads a bit to the right, trying to evade detection just in case a cop's around. And how safe can that be?

This is a good law, but WHY can't people understand that talking on the phone while driving is NOT the main problem. The worse problem is when people dial or text while driving. That problem is FAR worse and I know that first hand. It doesn't seem like the law refers to that.

Sasha, Texting while driving is against the law. That law went into effect after the law banning hand-held phones. Unfortunately, there wasn't the political muscle to ban talking on a phone with a headset. That would have eliminated the dialing problem, which I agree is a big one. But meanwhile, there needs to be heavier enforcement of the laws that do exist.

I know both talking and texting is illegal but I agree with Sasha - it is far more dangerous to dial and text while driving. At least our eyes are on the road when we're talking!
