IBM withdraws $7 billion offer for Sun Micro

After weeks of negotiations, IBM withdrew its $7 billion bid for Sun Microsystems on Sunday, one day after Sun's board balked at a reduced offer, the New York Times reported. Sun Micro has a major campus in Menlo Park.

Is this another Microsoft-Yahoo soap opera? Someone is playing hard to get and gets unceremoniously dumped? Will the suitor come back in a few months (again and again)? Stay tuned for the next chapter.

Everyone was saying that Yahoo would go out of business if they gave up on Microsoft, but that didn't happen, despite the recession.
