If you think under-grounding this monstrosity is the answer to raising the rails, think again. The train, traveling at high speeds, will literally shake the ground beneath it, sending shock waves out directly through the soil to your homes foundation, into your floorboards and walls, and your used-to-be-comforting bed. One local geological engineer estimates that these waves could likely be felt up to 2500 feet away, either side of the tracks. The impact on the enjoyment rights of area homes would be astounding. There is no good answer here, other than moving, or suing, or both. Raise it up, you have virtually divided a downtown in two, one already too small to attractively and sensibly divide. Vibration becomes less of an issue, but noise increases your angst. This boondoggle needs to either be sent on an east bay route, or terminate sensibly in San Jose. Imagine 5 years of 24 hour construction, heard LOUDLY well into the central Menlo neighborhoods, day and night. You will wish you had never voted yes.

Under-grounding is a straw horse. The economics don't work. Sure CHSRA will say they have studied it, but they will come back with cost estimates that will put it off the table.
