Thank you Mayor Robinson. I can assure you that teachers in the Las Lomitas District have been making plans to include the inauguration in their lesson plans for some time now. This is indeed a "teachable moment."

I agree that the inauguration of a president is a quite important event for any young student to view and learn from. It is amazing to me that the idea has never been introduced until this particular inauguration. Perhaps the leftist agenda that is so prevalent in todays public schooling plays a small part in these decisions.

I don't know if you watched the news up to the election, but it was one of the more contentious elections I've seen since I started voting. Perhaps one of the things that made this inauguration a "teaching moment" was less about the leftist agenda and more about the peaceful transfer of power that makes our country so marvelous. And I think its reaching just a bit to say the "idea has never been introduced" prior to this inauguration. Call me crazy, but its probably been covered in schools before. Remember 2000? That was full of teachable moments - and clearly no leftist agenda.
