Get Ready For Their High-Speed Infomercial Sales Pitch

Important Notice:
HIGH-SPEED RAIL STUDY SESSION

There will be a High-Speed Train Joint Study Session in city council chambers with the Menlo Park and Atherton City Councils. It will be Tuesday, September 9th at 5:30. I'm not certain of the time, so please check.

The City manager has already lined up Rod Diridon from the CHSRA to speak on behalf of this train.

Apparently he has trouble finding anyone to oppose it. I think he hasn't tried hard enough.

Please check your calendar now. If at all possible, be there on Tuesday night, Sept. 9th.

The City needs to hear from all of us about how we feel about this impending disaster to our taxes, our Menlo Park and our state of California.

At this time, it looks like there will be no AB3034 amending the high-speed train bond measure (although Sacramento is always full of surprises).

What does that mean? It means, regarding Prop. 1, no business plan, no independent review of their bookkeeping, no accountability, and no requirement for private investors or Public/Private Partnerships, and it will be "supported" by an invalid EIS/EIR.

Since this note was written, AB-3034 was signed by the Governor and became law. The Nov 4th ballot will have the new bond measure designated as Prop 1A. The old Prop 1 has been removed. Voter information for Prop 1A will be contained in a supplemental pamphlet, which will cost the state an additional 4 million dollars to print. Thus the efficiency of our legislature.

The Menlo Park study session will start at either 5:00 or 5:30 PM in council chambers on Sept 9th. It should be a good discussion of High Speed Rail and how this project will in particular affect Menlo Park ,Atherton and other peninsula cities.

Speaking against the project will be Dan McNamara, who has worked on rail projects and High Speed Projects for many years, and is extremely knowledgeable. There is supposed to be a full hour reserved for public comment. I urge everyone to attend.
