There you go again, Caltrain. Seven million dollars for fencing? Four years to do it? I hate to complain, but. . . . .that's cavalier. Why not more money? Why not sooner? Putting on media-targeted show-and-tell torch performances and public relations extravaganzas is all well and good, but please close off the entire rail corridor between every street crossing, and on both sides. Please put up end-fences or locked gates at crossings with only enough room for the trains to go through. Post huge "FORBIDDEN" signs there. Caltrain, get serious. Your cameras will protect you, not accident victims. Treat the rail corridor as if it were a transformer sub-station. Note that airports are enclosed with fencing. Dangerous places should be very very hard to get into. Put four-quad gates at all at-grade crossings. "Lecturing" people may or may not work. Inhibit access. More barriers are better. I know, it's not perfect. Yes, yes, there are lots of suicides. So, it shouldn't be easy for them. It should be discouragingly hard. Start thinking like those people who make drug containers child-proof.
