The situation is avoidable, but one may need to be pro-active to address a clear and present danger. What I am referring to is the recent leasing of part of the parking lot of a car dealership to Safeway located on El Camino Real, for the benefit of their employees, and/or others.
What I've observed happen, on more than one occasion, are people, for one reason or another, JAY WALKING by dodging on-going cars, to perhaps more quickly - and conveniently - cross El Camion Real in order get to and from the new Safeway store.
I hold my breath while I'm in shock watching this illegal practice occur. What the individuals ought to be doing is walking down to the corner, where there is a light and a cross walk, and safely crossing the street. Many persons are, to their credit. Others are not - and I sadly feel, with extreme disappointment, that one day soon, we will be reading an article in the Almanac newspaper that may have a headline to the effect "Murder in Menlo". We've all heard the expression, "Bloody Bayshore". El Camino Real later this year may be added to the list.
Can anything be done?
