Sudden Oak Death

Last year it was the tanoaks; this year it's the live oaks. Oak trees are dying by the dozens in the woods of Woodside, Portola Valley and up across Skyline.

What impact on tree deaths is the practice of planting and watering grassy lawns and flower beds next to oaks? Doour heritage tree rules speak to this?
