Is JZ Cool worth checking out?

Original post made by Always hungry, Atherton: Lindenwood, on Jul 3, 2007

Has anyone eaten at JZ Cool since it reopened after renovations? I tried to get lunch there this afternoon, but it was closed, although the sign says it's open for lunch on Tuesdays. There was no sign explaining why it was closed, and I was disappointed. The new interior looks good, judging from what I could see through the window of a locked door. Anyone know about the menu -- or why the place was closed today?

I've heard the prices have gone way up and the mac & cheese is off the menu. I guess I won't be bringing my kid there anymore.

I went for lunch today--the food is fabulous. We sat on the patio and the ground is slanted and table sloped by an inch. My back hurt from leaning forward to reach my food. the sliver plates and utensils kept slipping all over the metal top table. It was so difficult just to sit and eat. They need to fix that. The whole self serve water area is gone. That's such a bummer with the slow service. I haven't tried the new wine bar. It looks fun. Now I am wishing I'd gone there tonight rather than Vida, which closed at ten but they got very pushy by 9:30. This is not town for staying out late, unfortunately.

Sadly JZ Cool has closed for good - you might want to try the Stanford Art Museum cafe run by Jesse Cool or the Flea Street Cafe on the Alameda de las Pulgas in Menlo Park.
