Smooth sailing on Valparaiso

Original post made by Andrea Gemmet, Almanac staff writer, on Apr 6, 2007

Eastbound Valparaiso Avenue is still a bumpy mess, but on the westbound Atherton side of the street, it's smooth sailing. The concrete barriers are down and the refurbished roadway is delightfully pothole free.

This month, motorists might want to make most of uninterrupted driving, because next month, Menlo Park is slated to begin work on its side of Valparaiso.

Menlo Park's project will mostly consist of spot repairs, called dig-outs, that won't require closure of the road, although motorists can expect some delays.

Once Menlo Park is finished, both towns have a joint project to put a final top coat of asphalt over the entire road, eliminating the irritating seam-down-the-middle look that Valparaiso currently has.

Atherton Public Works Director Duncan Jones was spotted out on Valparaiso this morning, checking out the reopened road along with work crews.
