Menlo Park to add pedestrian safety measures at Willow Road's intersection with Alma Street

Of course stop signs should be added--especially on Alma Street for traffic moving south or turning east onto Willow Rd. It's a very dangerous intersection, and while there are times when there is "low traffic," there are also times when the intersection is quite busy. Cars coming down Alma towards Willow often don't see bicycles or cars coming towards them, traveling on Alma St. going north through the intersection or turning right onto Willow, and close calls happen frequently. Cars traveling over the speed limit from Ravenswood down Alma St. also often don't see or stop for pedestrians crossing Willow Road at Alma. A stop sign on Alma St. is just common sense and long overdue.

Please no more stop signs. We are adding FAR too many as an alleged fix for all sorts of problems

This modification will probably make the corner safer. So fine. But one incident in 5 years warrants prioritized attention?

On pedestrian safety, the no parking bike lane on the south side of Middle Ave makes it necessary at several places for visitors to park on a side street and walk in the bike lane to get to houses. On a dark and rainy night that won’t be fun. The bike lanes should include sidewalk improvement as on Santa Cruz or allow some parking.

Considering most traffic is going from Alma Southbound to Willow and from Willow to Alma Northbound, a roundabout would probably make more sense than added stopsigns

Any change that tilts the balance in favor of the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, no matter how slight that change, is the right thing to do.
