Subject: Suggestions regarding the Coronavirus or COVID-19
The health and safety of all residents and students in Atherton is our highest priority. We are all concerned about the spread of COVID-19 and we want to minimize the likelihood that we get it or that it gets spread in our community. I want to assure you that Atherton is watching this closely and taking action to address the situation. We need to work together to ensure everyone’s well-being during this public health crisis. Accordingly, we suggest the following:
What to Do if You Think You’re Sick:
STAY HOME: While you might consider going out when you have a light common cold, DON’T DO IT DURING THIS CRISIS. PLEASE STAY HOME. THIS IS CRITICAL.
CALL AHEAD: If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or may have had contact with a person with COVID, call your health care provider before seeking medical care so that appropriate precautions can be taken.
How To Protect Yourself and Your Familys:
Everyone has a role to play. So much of protecting yourself and your family comes down to common sense:
• Washing hands with soap and water for as long as it takes to sing Happy Birthday.
• Avoiding touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
• Avoiding contact with people who are sick.
• Staying away from work, school or other people if you become sick with any respiratory symptoms, especially fever and cough.
• Follow the guidance from public health officials.
Protecting our Schools:
Atherton’s population doubles every school day because of the number of students at our 8 schools. Here is the State of California guidance for our schools:

Please feel free to email me with your questions or concerns. Prevention and preparedness is our best defense.
Sincerely, Rick DeGolia
