Good job Menlo fire board!
Totally ridiculous idea.
Time to ditch Harold Schapelhouman as chief.

Chief Schapelhouman is a dedicated professional who strives to do what is best for our community. He deserves our respect and appreciation for his many years of service and efforts to promote safety. The time may not be right for an electric fire truck now, but someday it will be and Menlo Fire will be ready.

Smart decision by the Board -- timing wasn't right. Besides, the technology of an electric fire apparatus still needs to evolve before the FD buys one.

Dumb idea, good to see the board say no to spending 1 million dollars on another grab at tax payer money.

Jenson:
It's not "another grab at taxpayer money". The MPFPD is extremely well funded and well managed fiscally. If they were to purchase this engine it would be with funds they already have.
Unlike the local school districts, you won't see MPFPD come begging for more and more property tax assessments to fund their mismanagement. That is where your "grab at taxpayer money" exists. You should be complaining about them.

I am all for the electrification of vehicles ... however, for something as critical as a fire truck, let the technology mature a bit more. We don't want an experiment to go wrong when the house is burning down.

Menlo Voter. The MPFPD receives an inequitable post prop 13 allocation of property taxes compared to school districts. That is why you don’t see several hundred thousand dollar salaries, huge pensions to teachers, and speculative real estate investments and other high visibility spending to educate our youth.

George:
The legislature has decided its not inequitable. Doesn't change the fact that our local school district has a real problem living within its means.

Thank you board! It’s about time we reined in outrageous spending by unelected bureaucrats. Perhaps the manufacturer should pay the district for testing and evaluation?
