Historical Association hosts celebration of Armistice Day centennial on Sunday

Original post made on Nov 10, 2018

This Sunday, Nov. 11, will mark 100 years since the end of World War I, and 80 years of Fremont Park's existence in Menlo Park. To celebrate the centennial event, the Menlo Park Historical Association will host a celebration starting at 10:30 a.m. that day at Fremont Park.

I’ll be there. Sounds like a solemn and important event - least we never forget our freedoms are hard fought with the ultimate price paid by way too many. It’s wonderful the Menlo Park Historical Association is providing this event. Two new Storyboards were also installed only yesterday explaining the history of Camp Fremont and its importance to the development of what is now known as the City of Menlo Park.

Hear, hear. One couldn't agree more. Well, perhaps 'one' could...

We need only look to our glorious leader for ways to honor the fallen.

"'Umbrellas Are Hard:' Trump Shamed Over Skipping WWI Cemetery Visit in France"

Web Link

"PARIS — President Trump flew 3,800 miles to this French capital city for ceremonies to honor the military sacrifice in World War I, hoping to take part in the kind of powerful ode to the bravery of the armed forces that he was unable to hold in Washington.

But on his first full day here, it rained on his substitute parade weekend.

Early Saturday, the White House announced Trump and the first lady had scuttled plans, due to bad weather, for their first stop in the weekend’s remembrance activities — a visit to the solemn Aisne Marne American Cemetery, marking the ferocious Battle of Belleau Wood."

Others deciding honoring the fallen was just TOO hard?

"But the sight of dignitaries arriving at other sites outside Paris, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron, led some foreign policy analysts to speculate the U.S. commander in chief just wasn’t up for it."

I'm sure the fallen heroes would have understood - it was just too darn rainy.

THis sounds like a fantastic event at Fremont - I'll be there. Thanks for the post.

National Republicans belittle the President:

"It's incredible that a president would travel to France for this significant anniversary - and then remain in his hotel room watching TV rather than pay in person his respects to the Americans who gave their lives in France for the victory gained 100 years ago tomorrow"

And that Republican isn't even a veteran.

"And that Republican isn't even a veteran."

Nope. That "Republican" is a draft dodger. A coward. A bully. A despicable human being. He isn't fit to lick the boots of an actual veteran. It disgusts me that he is in command of our military. Our military that actually put their lives on the line. Unlike the disgusting POS that "leads" them. To use on one of his favorite terms, "it's a disgrace."

Making America greater by skipping Veterans Day?

Couldn't make it to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier - gosh, was it raining again?

I'm fascinated as to how this plays out - all these former family values type, or church going types, or deficit Hawks, etc.., once Trump is gone - how do they pretend to have integrity again?
