Editorial endorsement: Four strong fire board candidates; three right for this moment

Troubling trends have developed over the last few years in the Menlo Park Fire Protection District, some of them due to a lack of transparency and an excessive delegation of authority by the board of directors to district staff. A stronger board is needed to provide the oversight over the district that residents have a right to expect.

I am curious why the Almanac would support Robert Jones as he voted in favor of a pay increase that you describe as "a new five-year contract for firefighters that increases already rich compensation packages for each firefighter by an average of $58,726 annually."

He may be a resident of EPA and I am in favor of having representation from that community on the board but not Jones if he is voting like this. I think we can do better.
