Police calls: Thief redirects delivery of collectible gold coins worth $88K

Among recent police calls: A numismatist's nightmare. Police received a call Sept. 10 that someone had called FedEx, redirected the intended delivery location of a package to the main FedEx office in Menlo Park, and then claimed a package containing $88,700 in gold collectible coins, stealing it from its intended recipient.

"An unknown man and woman took a backpack and calculator from Staples on the 700 block of El Camino Real without paying for them and fled northbound on El Camino Real. Estimated loss: $860. Sept. 7"

Must have been a nice backpack or calculator
