An understanding of statistics is a useful tool before discussing averages.
There are thousands of firefighters in California who are paid more than the highest paid MPFPD firefighter - see
Web Link
An agency that places a priority on first responders will have a higher average salary than an agency which has a greater number of non-first responders. An easy way for an agency to lower its average salary is to hire a number of part time, low paid clerical staff - that does nothing to provide better fire and medical response.
This article also fails to note that the MPFPD average salary for 2017 went DOWN by $3,184 from 2016 while the average San Ramon Valley Fire District salary for 2017 went UP by $12,350 from 2016 - [portion removed].

How much of the costs have to do with MPFPD providing emergency response to areas out side of Calif during disasters. Is the Dept compensated?
How many of us get to enjoy such FULL benefits?
Many organizations and companies have done away with traditional lifetime pensions due to their ever increasing costs. Perhaps it's time for MP fire to do the same.

You attempt to obfuscate and misdirect like Trump. MPFPD has the highest pay in California and there are government websites pointed out in previous discussion that show this. Argue all you want but I doubt anyone believes the rhetoric.
Fact is that this increase also has long term costs to pension funds and those are just growing and growing leaving the residents on the hook for huge amounts of money in the future. You may not care but WE DO
The board needs to vote no on this increase or at the very least delay it until it can be discussed further and have more input from residents.
Just so no one has to go looking, if you go to publicpay.ca.gov (a government website) then select Special Districts (which the MPFPD is) and then click on Average you will see that the Menlo Park Fire protection District is at the top of the list.
If you have time, look at the other types like cities, Superior Courts, University of California, etc. and you will see the average for Menlo Park Fire Protection district is far and away the highest.
I wonder if board members for the district with the highest paid employee say "disregard that, we don't have the highest AVERAGE pay in the state so you should not worry about it" ?
