Fire board nixes discussion of limiting revenue sharing to public vote

The Menlo Park Fire Protection District board on July 24 rejected a board member's proposal to discuss at a future meeting a possible resolution that would require a public vote before any future fire board could "enter into agreements to share fire district tax revenues with other agencies."

Sad that Kiraly and Bernstein would not even consider giving the public the right to decide how their tax dollars are given away. And in the same meeting Bernstein voted against giving the public the opportunity to comment on a conditional 5 year contract before the Board votes on that contract next month.

Yes, the issue will be back as a bare majority of the Board understands that they work for the voters and not the reverse.

Out of respect for the topic’s submitter the Fire Board should have tabled the issue until next month. Perhaps it can be voted on again when an old number of Directors are available- not an even number.

Suggest it be discussed further tomorrow, Saturday, July 28, 2018, during the board planning meeting scheduled to begin at 10 am., along with the other agenda items.
