The latest Facebook scandal shows that Facebook is just lying to you about their security and privacy. More controls and easier to understand settings do not matter if the company is lying to you. If you really care about privacy, stop using Facebook.
Stop using credit cards, too, since those people are even worse about lying and about privacy settings.

Where’s the “Lean In” lady, Sheryl Sandberg in all of this Facebook privacy scandal? She’s #2 in the company, but has been as silent as a door mouse for the past month. Cowardly!

I am sure Facebook takes a small number of people dressed up like that and calling themselves the "Raging Grannies" as a serious issue requiring action...
Let's face it, Facebook is running a business. While in this case it seems like a 3rd party exploited a weakness in Facebook to get and retain personal data people should assume that anything they put online will be used by someone who does not have their explicit permission. In part that is how Facebook is able to make a profit and with all the hacking it is just naive to think that anything online is 100% safe. If you don't want people accessing your Facebook data then either don't use Facebook or limit what you put on there.

I saw a news report just this week that the Menlo Park Police Dept. is fielding complaints and concerns about Facebook and how it has mishandled users' information. These calls have come from around the U.S. as well outside the U.S. Maybe Facebook should consider giving out their phone number so they can answer questions.
