Tonight: Menlo Park council may bring 'charter' option to voters

To kick off 2018, the Menlo Park City Council is going to be digging deeper than just setting new goals -- though that's scheduled, too, for the council's Jan. 29 meeting. At its first meeting of the calendar year, tonight (Jan. 16), the council will discuss the possibility of rewriting the city's founding document to gain more flexibility for its voting system.

Kate, you write about balkanization, but then you go on to describe ranked-choice and cumulative voting which do nothing to address balkanization. The charter will allow a hybrid system, where East of 101 has is one district but the rest of Menlo Park is also one district with four candidates. This would satisfy the terms of the lawsuit.
