It was getting dark, and a totally lovely couple hiking with a young beautiful baby popped out onto our road which is very close to Wunderlich. I could tell that they were not quite lost but rather misplaced with regard to their car. At the time I patted myself on the back for being a thoughtful good Samaritan and we all left in good cheer after driving you safely back to your vehicle.
But now I woke up with a start realizing that all three of us were not at all thinking clearly. I was genuinely concerned about your safety and comfort as I hated to see you guys walking that section of Woodside Rd at dusk/dark. And I know you guys accepted the ride in that spirit, so let's forgive ourselves for our rather complete stupidity. It was just that, and here's why: I don't have a baby car seat in my car! It was a very short ride, but imagine that I had to make an emergency stop for any reason whatsoever or worst of all that we had an airbag deployment. Not good. I get the heebie jeebies just thinking about it. Don't ever do that again.
What probably should have happened: mom should have kept baby where we were, and I should have taken dad back to retrieve the car. We should have probably had you guys dial up your cell phones to each other so you'd both know all were safe for the 5 or 6 minutes it would have taken while you were apart.
Anyway, 20/20 hindsight, and I'm glad and relieved that it had a happy ending. I once had a pilot instructor say to me that any landing that you can walk away from is a good landing.
Hope that the holiday season treats you with love and kindness. Only the best.
