Original post made on Sep 26, 2017

It was an evening of interviews and infighting, but for Peter Carpenter, president of the board of the Menlo Park Fire Protection District, it was also some kind of wonderful.

Here is an example of the scintillating dialog: -- Web Link

I have never heard a director, commissioner, or council member call a colleague a Puppet. On the other hand, I have never observed an elected official as arrogant as is Peter Carpenter. Knowing what I know about Carpenter, I kind of sympathize on this one with Virginia.

"This evening has been one of the high points.....I would be perfectly comfortable giving up my seat ... for any one of the seven of you," -- Peter Carpenter

The best that could happen would be to make Peter happy and replace him with one of the seven. {part removed.]

I disagree with John the Baptist. Carpenter is knowledgable & communicates clearly. I've had contact with Bernstein, via his business & organization-related activities over a number of years & consider him a disrupter & very difficult to work with.
Chuck & Virginia have had plenty of time to get information from any candidates who are willing to provide itin a timely manner. [Part removed.]

Please feel free to watch the video of the Board meeting:

Note that the Board had almost four hours to ask the candidates questions and the questioning continued until none of the board members had any additional questions to ask.

I agree with John the Baptist; choose two of the seven, one to fill the open seat and one to replace Mr. Carpenter, who would be "perfectly comfortable giving up (his) seat to any one of the seven...". I believe many of us would also be perfectly comfortable with that arrangement.
