Three hours of questioning, still no vote? What a bunch of losers on the fire board. Who would want to join that group. Pretty sad. Put it to a public vote then, and stop this game. Once again elected officials passed the buck...

With all that time and no decision; I'm disappointed in Kiraly and Bernstein for their inability to decide. How embarrassing for the FD.
In the past the Board has been able to fill vacancies in a single meeting that lasted less than 5 hours. Mr. Silano at least did his own homework;he and Director Carpenter said they were ready and able to vote.
Let's hope next time these two will "get to know" the candidates better so they can make a decision.

Fire Board Policy Manual:
5.3 Board Members Meeting Participation
The basic manner in which members fulfill their office must be at a regular, special, committee, or workshop meeting, and will be a matter of public record. The method of participation is discussion, deliberation, debate and voting. All members, including the President, are expected to participate fully in deliberation and voting.

So what? What is the penalty for board members that don't comply? Kiraly holds 2 public offices, no penalty there either.
A lot of dead wood ( Bernstein-Kiraly) and the people that our interested in the fire board would be good choices. Better than the no bodies that don't do their job.

I think you can presume that the two faction son the board each have a candidate they want to push. so a tie vote will eventually send the selection to the County Supervisors and God help us on that day.....
my take is that they should choose a candidate from an under represented area of the district. Perhaps East Menlo Park.

Roy: how about we focus on identifying the best person for the job without considering their zip code.

The fact is that residency of directors will eventually be a factor in elections.
My Sequoia Healthcare District is moving to "zone-based" elections. It's only a matter of time.

I am confident that after four hours of interviews and another four weeks to garner additional information that any responsible Fire Board Director will be capable of casting a responsible vote to select from one of the seven very impressive candidates who have offered to serve on the Board.
