It's so nice to see a post such as this on an important day, Memorial Day. As a Spanish teacher and daughter of military parents, I see Memorial Day as a lovely blend of El Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and Veteran's Day.
It's a time to remember all those who have gone before us, to celebrate their lives and their impact on us. It's a time to appreciate those who served and lost lives in the military. It's a time to support those who have recently lost a loved one and those who are undergoing the fresh pain of loss.
Memorial Day is much more than hotdogs and hamburgers at the beach. Thank you Peter for your post and for reminding us all of this. This weekend I remember Moody Cook, my ancestor who fought in the American Revolution, the friends I have lost to cancer, and my father, who shaped me in so many ways.
Happy Memorial Day to all!

As a third generation volunteer Navy Veterans of WW!, WW2, and Vietnam, From E-5 to Admiral, You go where you're sent and you do what they say and we would do it again. On behalf of my family and all veterans,
Thanks for your recognition of those that have served and best to all that are currently serving and their families.

How sad that the Almanac does not even mention Memorial Day in its current edition.
We have become a society whose freedoms are protected by others and their sacrifices are ignored.

We are here today and continue to enjoy our freedoms because of the sacrifice of those who wore the uniform and for those who keep an every vigilant watch every day. Freedom comes with a price. We should honor those men and women especially those who have their lives.
Thank you for your service!
