As a retired teacher, I'm inclined to believe the complaints about Hernandez -Goff. What the teachers describe is all too common in school districts. School boards are not necessarily the best people to interview and hire superintendents. The board for my former school's superintendent position seriously failed on two consecutive hires. Both times they first used a search firm and followed up with an interview by the board. Both times they failed to check the person's work background. Both times the District had to pay considerable termination fees--$900,000, and $500,000. Relying on a search firm or personal references is not good enough. A close scrutiny of how the person was viewed by staff at his or her prior position will often reveal very pertinent information. Confrontational relationships with staff and teachers do not bode well.
