Inauguration Day SIDEWALK PROTEST in the Peninsula

Original post made by not compliant/3 million vote margin, Woodside: Emerald Hills, on Jan 19, 2017

Along El Camino Real, in all cities from San Francisco to San Jose
Friday, January 20, 2017, Noon to 1:00 pm

"Rev. Ben Meyers, minister of the Unitarian Universalists of San Mateo (UUSM), announced today that UUSM members will stand in solidarity for peace, sustainability and social justice on Inauguration Day, January 20th. He invited the greater Peninsula community to join in a peaceful protest from noon – 1 p.m. along the El Camino Real (ECR) from San Francisco to San Jose."

To everyone who lives, works, and studies in the Counties of San Francisco, San
Mateo, and Santa Clara:

If you are deeply concerned about the rhetoric and policies of the incoming
administration, come out of your homes, work places, schools, and churches on
Inauguration Day, January 20. Go to the section of El Camino Real closest to you and let’s all do a sidewalk protest for one hour, starting at noon.

 It is LEGAL to protest on a sidewalk without a permit as long as you are not
obstructing the free flow of vehicles and people.
 Come in groups. Organize your families, friends, churches, co-workers, classes,
nonprofit organizations, affinity groups, etc. If possible, have a big sign with your
group’s name. (Of course, individuals are also welcome.)
 Bring banners and signs expressing whatever concerns you the most about the new
administration. Be direct and clear, but PLEASE, no hateful or violent language.
 Stand on the sidewalk in a line, facing the road. DO NOT BLOCK TRAFFIC,
PEDESTRIANS, DRIVEWAYS, OR BUILDING ENTRANCES. Do not use sound
amplifying equipment.
 If a section of sidewalk becomes congested, move
down to an empty stretch and line that gap.
 Do not litter. Be considerate. Follow all laws.
 Take photos and video of your protest and share
on social media. If you are so inclined, sing!
 At 1:00 o’clock, we’ll peacefully disperse.

If we come out in force, we’ll line up in strings of humanity along El Camino Real
down the length of the Bay Area Peninsula. Let’s show that we will stand our ground and fight for tolerance, decency, shared prosperity, and democracy in our country!

We were shocked by how few people attended the inauguration in Washington DC (based on the live TV coverage). Photos make it look like Obama's inauguration at at least 5 times as many spectators. Maybe all the extra people will be attending these local protests instead?

Interesting drive up El Camino today. More people out than I have ever seen protest before. And lots of support from drivers.

Only one anti-protester driving by asking them if they were working. The response I heard was - we are here on lunch, why aren't you working? Followed by shouts of 'we love you.'

I was impressed.

I agree with Resident, when I watched the inauguration this morning, it appeared that they spread out the people to make it look like there were far more people there, but the crowd was very thin. Also, the people in that crowd looked weird too. I hate to used a loaded term, but the people at Trump's inauguration looked like white trailer trash out for the weekend or something. I wonder if they have to pay them more than they paid the initial Trump crowd who showed up at his Presidential announcement. Remember that?

This is the darkest day in America I have ever lived through that did not involve a military attack on our mainland.

People say the country is split 50-50, but that is simple not true, and to say that is really misleading. What is true is if Democrats would vote they would take any election 60-40, and if they had an inspiring candidate like Barack Obama or Bernie Sanders, probably more.

It is true to say people are tired of the status quo, but any thinking person knew that to vote for someone who never lets on who he is or what he stands for is beyond foolish. To maintain high expectations of a candidate who picks a cabinet of the worst extremists, putting people who want to kill the organizations they are employed to head is beyond foolish.

Normally I don't mind if people want to behave foolish, but this country here is everyone's and what we have now is a guy who has lied and insulted his way to the Presidency ... just like Jeb Bush hoped he couldn't.

A very dark day for the country and the world.

Most most heartwarming to drive down El Camino in Mountain View yesterday and see all the protestors and signs, brought tears to my eyes as I was able to honk at every corner! Thank you all so much for coming out.........and some wearing your pink knitted hats, too.

That's a direct hit on some of the messages presented at this weekend's 600+ marches involving millions of Americans.
