Which Trump policy will have the greatest effect on Menlo Park?

Probably the Ocare repeal.

Hundreds or thousands in MP will lose insurance.

Hundreds or thousands in MP will lose subsidies.

Thousands will have coverage denied for pre-existing conditions (such as "female" or "having lived life")

Hundreds of sub-26 yr olds in MP will lose insurance.

Longer lines in emergency rooms as the uninsured flood them.


All will be assigned annual and lifetime caps on coverage.

This is best case. Worst case could be a collapse of the marketplace if repeal is done incorrectly.

Republican Chair of the Energy and Commerce Chairman Greg Walden said the GOP must continue subsidies to avoid Markey collapse affecting all.

Could be a bumpy rude for anyone with medical insurance other than Medicare and VA.

Lower taxes and tax reform will have the biggest effect on MP. Lots of high earners and real estate appreciation that would benefit. Then, you add in the VCs in and around Sand Hill, large businesses, such as Facebook, and corporate law firms based in the area. It should be a big financial benefit.

Obamacare will change, but something else will replace it. Congress won't provide anything as comprehensive, but I expect the CA legislature will fill in the gaps of any replacement plan. For example, if Congress cuts off Planned Parenthood, the state could fund it itself. The net effect on MP may not be that different.

I don't think very many people are using their O' care plans w/ the high deductibles. Averaging around $8,000 out of pocket before they pay a dime.

the insurance companies are making out, my premiums have doubled in the last 2 years. I go in less often w/ my new $8,000 deductible. It's basically become a catastrophic occurrence policy at twice the cost.

I doubt it could get much worse.

Tax cuts for the VCs and the rest of us will find out our cancer falls under a previous condition.

Plus - the ACA helped cut Medicare's costs.

Medicare for all.

Trade war with Asia.

If he cancels all of Facebook's H1B visas, housing may become affordable in Menlo Park again.

Then the 2nd quote is 4 or 5 months old. Note the absence of links to back up the posters falsehoods. Pretty lame attempt to pass off old, discredited stories.

CBO reported today that 19-32 million Americans will go without insurance when the ACA is repealed. That's 1 in 10 Americans.

Stands to reason a similar ratio of local residents will be effected.

And all will be affected by the many benefits the ACA provided: annual caps, lifetime caps, pre-existing conditions, saved the budget a trillion, preventative care, woman's health specifics, etc..

But maybe it's still all about Clinton.

I wonder about the logic behind the post that claims tax cuts will all work out along with repeal - no big deal, let the state make up the difference. By raising working class taxes?

Sure, the VC guys love their tax cuts, as they get the majority of the benefit. And they can afford any change in health care such as pre-existing conditions, annual and lifetime caps, etc..

Heck, how cares about the middle class family anyway?

The state will likely increase income taxes on the rich to pay for any holes left in the health care system post-repeal and replace. I doubt CA would raise taxes on the working class to do it.

The GOP and Trump already admitted they are going to add nine trillion in debt. If they admit that already it will probably be far worse.

Tax cuts will wreck the economy. Our debt is absurd. Repeal the Bush tax cuts. Go back to Clinton rates. At least return the cap gains rate to the level it was under Reagan.

Investment income should be taxed at a higher rate than work wages.

Slashing taxes on corporations, throwing our economy back into Bush style recession, then cutting government services that made the American middle class strong and the envy of the world.
