Is Atherton Leaning Toward Brexit ?

With so many unexpected twists and turns to the political climate these days, it's natural to consider whether the Town of Atherton is leaning in the direction of exiting larger institutions in which they are a part in preference to going it alone. Perhaps a town of approx. 7,000 people, with no businesses, no hotels, no commercial areas that are pretty much limited to high net worth homes can do things better than they can being a part of a large entity. Recent indications may be lawsuit after lawsuit, some they win and some they loose. Most recently considering opening the possibility of forming there own Fire Department, much like their neighbors in Palo Alto, Mountain View and Sunnyvale. Heck, if they can do it, we can do it. This may be the trend in the days ahead at national levels, and it seems to have captured the attention of even those at the local level.

This would be funny, if it weren't so true. For some unknown reason, Atherton seems to feel they can do things better than anybody else. Does that mean they may later study providing other traditional municipal services?

"Unknown reason" is correct since this is a Town which cannot even afford to replace a decrepit police station because it has failed to make sufficient contributions to a building reserve from its annual tax revenues.
